Sector Coupling through Vehicle to Grid: A Case Study for Electric Vehicles and Households in Berlin, Germany

A key factor in limiting global warming is the conversion of conventional electricity generation to renewable energy sources. However, a major obstacle that and demand often do not coincide time, must therefore be stored temporarily. Vehicle grid (V2G) can used store excess battery electric vehicles (BEVs) feed it back into when needed. For effective V2G operation, may have expanded, as needs transported BEVs. should only strengthened where exceeds current capacity due high expansion costs. This requires method determines spatial distribution potential at resolution. Since such has yet been reported existing literature, so developed this paper. The demonstrated for city Berlin its 448 sub-districts. each sub-district, allows determining percentage residential BEV met by renewables if deployed, answers question whether full supply possible. results show BEVs effectively intermediate storage energy. If 30% participate V2G, more than 99% households covered on certain days. On other hand, deployment increases average peak load districts up 100% nearly double vehicle batteries. High shares observed with degree motorization, which are predominantly found outskirts city.
